Submarines are underwater vessels that are made for multirole purposes, like military, scientific, and exploration. They are capable of operating submerged for extended periods and have a range of weapons and sensors that make them valuable assets for naval warfare.

The history of submarines dates back to the 17th century, but it wasn’t until the 20th century that submarines became a key component of naval warfare. During World War I and World War II, the submarine was used to great effect by the German and Japanese navies. The Submarine was used to disrupt shipping lanes, lay mines, and attack enemy ships.

Type of Submarine

  1. Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN):  This submarine is nuclear-powered and carries intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). Their primary role is to provide nuclear deterrence, and they are used for strategic nuclear deterrence missions.
  2. Attack Submarine (SSN): This submarine is designed to seek out and attack other ships and submarines. Attack submarines are also used for intelligence gathering, reconnaissance, and surveillance missions.
  3. Cruise Missile Submarine (SSG or SSGN): This submarine is designed to launch cruise missiles at ground targets. Some SSGNs are converted ballistic missile submarines that have been refitted to carry cruise missiles.
  4. Midget Submarine: These small submarine is designed for covert operations and can be used to deploy frogmen, conduct reconnaissance missions, and lay mines.
  5. Rescue Submarine:  This submarine is designed for search and rescue missions and is used to locate and rescue sailors from stranded submarines. They are typically equipped with advanced communication systems and diving equipment.
  6. Research Submarine:  This submarine is used for scientific research and exploration. They are equipped with advanced sensors and research equipment and are used to study the ocean floor, observe marine life, and explore underwater geological formations.
